Integrated Pest Management
Integrated pest management (IPM) is the combination of control methods used to control pest species when plant health is threatened resulting in economic and or aesthetic damage. Considerations of IPM; the use of one control method over extended periods and overuse of one control method can lead to pesticide resistance, and impacts of control methods on non-target Beneficial’s. All control methods should consider the environmental consequences of treatment as well as no treatment.
TYPES OF CONTROL; biological, chemical, bio rational, cultural, host-plan resistance, mechanical, and regulatory. Early detection and response are critical to control of pest species. Eradication is not possible, control at a desired threshold should be the goal. Pest life cycle, infestation size, and location all play a role in control method used and timing used
